Gas saving tips and ideas
- In Winter weather - remove as much snow and ice from your car before driving, we have all seen people driving down the road with mounds of snow still on the car, this unremoved snow and ice cause tremendous wind resistance.
- Shorter warm up- most cars only really need 30 - 45 seconds of warm up in the winter, any thing longer will waste gas!
- Clean out your car - sometimes theres up to 50 extra pounds in there! Take that trash out and improve your gas mileage!
- Acceleratation - Think ahead when approaching hills. If you have to accelerate, do it before you reach the hill, not while you're on it.
-Check your tire pressure - under inflated tires are commonly ignored and one of the main causes of crappy MPG. By having proper air pressure there is less resistance for the wheels to roll making it easier for the car to move. Make sure to check the psi once a month when the tires are cold as warm tires will give a false reading.
-Check your air filter - a dirty air filter will restrict air flow into your engine which can limit performance and fuel economy. K&N filters are great at improving fuel economy, this filter is a permanent filter that is cleaned rather than changed.
- Accelerate Better - jack rabbit starts are not good and neither are crawling starts, both waste gas. Accelerate moderately. Also don't accelerate up to a red or yellow light, try coasting up to it and then stop as this too will save gas.
- Turn off unneeded electronics - A/C uses gas, by turning it off and rolling down your windows, you save gas.
By using these tips and just being more conscious about your gas usage and consumption you will save tons!
